Highlights from the DuPage Riverfront Master Plan

There are no timelines set for Shorewood's Riverfront Master Plan, approved earlier this month, but there are some exciting things to look forward to.

Route 59 & 52 Intersection:  The Riverfront Business District
- complete with lighting, raised planters, signage, landscaping, and corner plazas

Northwest corner - Babas' has already shut it's doors.   Future plans for this section includes a multi-story office / commercial zoning.

Northeast corner - No more Burger King and trailer park!  Mixed use development with multi-family residential adjacent to Hammel Woods, a multi-level office, and greenery.

Southwest corner - Goodbye 7-11.  Mixed use - multi-story office/commercial, with riverfront restaurants.  The primary entertainment zone!

Southeast corner - Commercial/restaurant development with riverside deck and public promenade.  Public plazas, waterfront access, and shade structures

South Bank Developments

Mixed use commercial/office, public promenade, connection to civic plaza (a bridge across the river).

Riverfront Park

Just South of the river, west of 59, plans for a Riverfront Park include a pavilion, parking area, boat launch, trail connections, overlook, and shoreline river access.  "A grand pavilion will host community events, weddings, and family gatherings."

Botanic Gardens

Further down the river, a new pedestrian bridge brings you to braided walkways, picnic shelters, ornamental plantings, parking access, and a "gateway monument" to show the end of the river walk and beginning of the DuPage River Trail.

West Shore Park Improvements

Just north across from the future Botanic Gardens, the West Shore Park will be improved with a winter wonderland area, with access to the river, tubing/sled hill, warming hut, ice rink, play environment, and trail enhancements.

Shorewood Park Improvements

Shorewood Park, located on the river off of 59, will get a Nature Lodge Cabin, campground areas, ropes, a challenge course, boat launch, and a pedestrian crossing.

DuPage River Trail

Interpretive Trail - with overlook, shoreline river access, boardwalk, and overlooks.  "Less structured hiking trail through woodland setting."

Wetland Trail/Fishing Station - shoreline river access, boardwalk, overlooks, fishing station and shelter.

Trail Head - trail head, parking, shelter, and boat launch.
